The foley technique is integral to sound artwork. It can customise sounds for specific sound needs or images, making the artwork more natural and immersive. Before preparing for foley, we should think about and design a list of all the scenes that require foley.Based on this, we should start to prepare the props, set up the microphone position according to the sound needs, etc.In the process of foley, I think it is very important to be imaginative about the sound. For example, a burning sound, which is divided into wind sound, fuel sound, etc., we used bed sheets, sponge bags, tape strips and dried fans to simulate this sound. However, the process is very energy-consuming, the main reason is that the sound simulator neglects to imagine the shape and structure of the sound during the recording process, and just creates the sound instead of creating the auditory sensation of a burning fire. Therefore, the design of the sound in the early stage is very important.
In addition to this, the post-processing of the audio after the recording is completed is also crucial.Proper overlaying and mixing needs to be done as required by the artwork to ensure that the sound is coordinated. It is also crucial to be patient during the foley process. The desired sound needs to be created and recorded over and over again to achieve the most perfect result. The sounds of different time periods are different and this should be taken into account during the foley process; it would be counterproductive to produce the sounds of new-age objects in a film set in an old era.
