This Monday, we did a sound experiment at Elephant Fort Center. We used a hydrophone to record sounds at the fountain, and we also made a sound map by listening and writing down what we heard.
First, we put the hydrophone in the fountain at the entrance. The sound was very different from what we hear in the air. The recording sounded like swallowing or drinking, with many small bubbles and flowing noises.
Then, we put the hydrophone into the soil near the fountain. The recording was very weak. We could only hear some low vibrations and occasional rubbing sounds, but most of the time almost nothing could be heard. Still, it showed that even the ground may have hidden sounds.
After that, we made a sound map through listening and taking notes. In the map, the fountain was the main sound in the center. Around it were footsteps, traffic noise, the sound of leaves moving, and some voices from people. The map helped us see how different sounds are spread out in space.
