For the group radio theatre project, I was responsible for the Foley sound production. Before starting, I read the script and marked which scenes needed specific sound effects. For example, a rainy night, the opening of an old wooden door, the clash of cups and saucers while drinking coffee. My task was to make sure that these sounds would enhance the immersion of the listener.
Some of the sounds I created:
Footsteps: I walked on different materials (carpet, wooden planks, concrete floor) and used different shoes to simulate the characters.
Rain sounds: I used a spray can to simulate a light rain and rubbed sandbags to create the rustle of a heavy rain.
Opening and closing sounds: Use an old wooden door from home to interpret it and adjust the speed of opening and closing to match the atmosphere of the play.
Cup and Saucer Clash: Use ceramic cups and spoons to gently tap to create the crisp sound of drinking coffee.
This experience made me realise that sound is an invisible narrator, and the proper use of Foley can complete the story even more. I hope my Foley sound effects will be useful for the group.
